COP31 Meeting by Samed Ağırbaş and Simon Stiell

President of the Zero Waste Foundation and COP31 High-Level Climate Champion Samed Ağırbaş evaluated the COP31 process to be held in Türkiye on November 9-20 with the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Simon Stiell.

The Zero Waste Foundation held an important meeting regarding the 31st Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP31) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to be held in Antalya on November 9-20.

In this context, President of the Zero Waste Foundation and COP31 High-Level Climate Champion Samed Ağırbaş met with the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Simon Stiell.

During the meeting between Ağırbaş and Stiell, the works of the Zero Waste Foundation and the High-Level Climate Championship Office regarding the COP31 process were discussed.

"A Vision Where Conscientious Responsibilities Are Centered"

Making a statement about the meeting, Samed Ağırbaş used the following expressions:

"Within the scope of the works we carry out under the auspices and leadership of First Lady Emine Erdoğan; as the Zero Waste Foundation and the High-Level Climate Champion Office, we had the opportunity to consult with the UNFCCC Executive Secretary Mr. Simon Stiell on the steps we will take in the COP31 process.

We discussed how to integrate regions more strongly into the process, a broad-based and multi-stakeholder COP31 vision, and the transformative impact of the Zero Waste approach in climate negotiations.

Following the meeting; we participated in the 'Kick-off Meeting between the COP31 Presidency and the UNFCCC Secretariat' held under the leadership of our Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and COP President Mr. Murat Kurum.

We continue to work with determination for a COP31 vision where more inclusive and conscientious responsibilities are centered."

Continuing its work under the vision and auspices of the Founder of the Zero Waste Movement, Chairperson of the UN Advisory Board of Eminent Persons on Zero Waste, and Honorary President of the Zero Waste Foundation, First Lady Emine Erdoğan; the Foundation continues its projects and works across Türkiye without interruption, while holding intensive contacts with international stakeholders within the scope of the COP31 process.
