Bringing together policymakers, local governments, the private sector, and civil society on the same ground globally, the Zero Waste Forum stands as a strategic threshold that takes the zero waste vision to a new stage of implementation and scaling.

The climate crisis, resource scarcity, and increasing waste burden faced by the world necessitate a new paradigm shift in the field of sustainability. In this transformation process, the Zero Waste Forum, spearheaded by First Lady Emine Erdoğan, Founder of the Zero Waste Movement, Chair of the United Nations Advisory Board of Eminent Persons on Zero Waste, and Honorary President of the Zero Waste Foundation, goes beyond being merely a platform for exchanging ideas and becomes the catalyst for systemic transformation on a global scale.

The new approach to be put forward within the scope of the forum addresses zero waste not just as an environmental policy, but as a holistic development model with economic, social, and governance dimensions. In this framework, zero waste stands out not only as "reducing waste" anymore, but as a transformation vision that requires the redesign of all systems from production to consumption, from financing to urban planning.

A New Threshold in Zero Waste: Beyond Behavioral Transformation

Although significant progress has been made in recent years through individual awareness campaigns and recycling practices, it is a fact that these efforts alone are not enough. The integration of the zero waste approach into all segments will be possible by restructuring the economic systems, production models, and policy tools that shape consumption habits.

In this context, the zero waste approach is evolving from a "waste management" perspective to a "resource management" understanding. This transformation finds concrete expression, especially through the widespread adoption of circular economy principles. Strategies such as extending the lifecycle of products, encouraging a culture of reuse and repair, and preventing waste at the source are among the prominent topics of the forum.

Global Collaborations and Multi-Stakeholder Governance

One of the most striking outcomes of the forum will be the strong collaborations that bring together actors from different geographies towards the same goal. This multi-layered network established among public institutions, local governments, the private sector, academia, and non-governmental organizations is considered a critical element that increases the applicability of zero waste goals.

The active participation of international organizations and experience sharing among cities allow local solutions to be disseminated globally. This approach ensures that zero waste practices become scalable not only in specific regions but also in societies with different socio-economic conditions.

Financing and Policy Integration: The Critical Pillar of Transformation

Financing mechanisms and policy alignment play a decisive role in the realization of zero waste goals. Among the priority topics to be discussed at the forum are the development of green financing tools, the promotion of sustainable investments, and the support of local initiatives.

Furthermore, the harmonization of national and international policy frameworks stands out as an important lever in accelerating zero waste practices. Common standards and guidelines to be developed in this context pave the way for more consistent and effective practices on a global scale.

A New Roadmap for Cities and Societies

Cities stand out as one of the most critical implementation areas of the zero waste transformation. Under the pressure of increasing population and consumption, cities are at the center of both the problem and the solution. Good practice examples to be shared at the forum will demonstrate that sustainable urban management is possible.

Smart waste management systems, local production-consumption balance, community-based recovery models, and digital tracking tools will be among the main instruments highlighted in the zero waste journey of cities.

Zero Waste is Not a Goal, But a Process

The zero waste movement, which has gained momentum globally under the leadership of First Lady Emine Erdoğan, is now considered a common future vision for humanity. Accordingly, the zero waste approach continues to grow as a collective movement that requires the active participation of all actors.

The global zero waste movement has now left the awareness stage behind and entered the period of implementation and scaling. The Zero Waste Forum is positioned as a strategic platform that strengthens both the intellectual and practical infrastructure of this transformation.

In the upcoming period, the success of the zero waste approach will be determined not only by the policies developed but also by the extent to which these policies can be implemented on the ground and integrated into all segments of society. This necessitates the adoption of zero waste as a new life and development model, rather than just an environmental goal.
