The Zero Waste Foundation is participating as a main partner this year in London Climate Action Week (LCAW), one of the world's leading climate gatherings, bringing its approach focused on zero waste, the circular economy, and resource efficiency together with global climate stakeholders.
Within the scope of the organization held in London, the Zero Waste Foundation is strengthening international collaborations on the topics of transitioning from linear production and consumption models to circular systems, reducing waste-sourced emissions, sustainable production models, and the role of innovation in climate action.
Continuing its work in line with the vision of First Lady Emine Erdoğan, Chair of the United Nations Advisory Board of Eminent Persons on Zero Waste and Honorary President of the Zero Waste Foundation, the Zero Waste Foundation contributes to the global climate agenda with the Climate Innovation Forum held in its event pavilion set up as part of LCAW.
Circular Economy Addressed as a Strategic Element of Climate Action
At the Climate Innovation Forum, organized based on the fact that a significant portion of global emissions originates from material use, production processes, food systems, and consumption habits, the transformation of economic systems into circularity was discussed.
Within the scope of the forum; the contribution of circular systems—which protect resources, reduce waste, and create economic value—to climate goals instead of linear models based on the "take-make-dispose" approach was evaluated.
In the event, business world representatives, investors, policymakers, supply chain experts, and innovation pioneers came together to evaluate;
• The role of circular business models in emission reduction,
• Sustainable management of critical minerals,
• Building resilience in supply chains,
• Policy and financing mechanisms that will support zero waste economies,
• Scalable solutions in the fields of materials, food, and textiles.
In the sessions held in cooperation with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and WRAP, the Zero Waste Foundation emphasized that circularity is not merely an environmental goal; it is also a strategic transformation area in terms of creating economic value, competitiveness, and building resilient systems.
"Zero Waste Approach is One of the Founding Elements of Climate Action"
Samed Ağırbaş, President of the Zero Waste Foundation and COP31 High-Level Climate Champion, delivered the closing speech of the "Circularity and Zero Waste" program held within the scope of the Climate Innovation Forum.
Drawing attention to the fundamental role of the zero waste approach in climate action, Ağırbaş expressed that the circular economy is a critical tool in achieving sustainable development goals.
In his speech, in line with the Zero Waste Forum vision and COP31 goals; he emphasized the importance of scaling implementable models in different areas, ranging from textile and food systems to the reduction of methane emissions, and from financing mechanisms to the dissemination of innovative solutions.
Zero Waste Vision Strengthens on Global Climate Platforms
The Zero Waste Foundation, among the main partners of London Climate Action Week, continues to share the role of the zero waste approach in combating climate change, circular economy solutions, and resource efficiency-focused applications with international stakeholders throughout the organization.
The works in London constitute one of the important steps of Türkiye's goal to position the zero waste approach more strongly on the global climate agenda during the COP31 process.
The Zero Waste Foundation continues to increase collaborations on international platforms in order to develop solution-oriented, inclusive, and implementable models against the climate crisis.
