What is COP? A Climate Summit Guide for Everyone

Everything you need to know about the world's largest environmental summits that determine the future of our planet.

Meaning and History of COP

Standing for 'Conference of the Parties', COP is the supreme decision-making body of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Held annually since 1995, these summits are the main stage where global action plans against the climate crisis are determined.

How COP Decisions Affect the World?

Decisions made at these summits shape everything from countries' carbon emission targets to renewable energy investments. Historic agreements like the Paris Agreement (COP21) directly determine national laws and the future warming scenarios of our planet.

Every decision made bindingly changes international trade and national environmental policies.

SUSTAINABILITY VISION

Why Is Türkiye Hosting COP31?.

Türkiye is a country highly exposed to climate risks and globally recognized for its leadership in zero waste and the circular economy, while actively developing systemic solutions that place sustainable development at the core. Through the Zero Waste initiative, Türkiye has emerged as a global model, demonstrating how national policy, international advocacy, and societal transformation can converge into a truly transformative sustainability movement.

"Hosting COP31 strengthens Türkiye’s leadership in climate diplomacy, reinforces its role as a global zero waste champion, and accelerates regional and international cooperation toward climate-resilient development."
