Mayor of Selçuklu
Selçuklu Municipality
Ahmet Pekyatırmacı was born in Konya in 1971 and graduated from Selçuk University, Department of Civil Engineering, in 1993. He was elected as a member of the Selçuklu Municipality Council in 2009. After taking over as Mayor of Selçuklu Municipality in 2018, he was re-elected in 2019 and 2024, and continues to serve the district.
Selçuklu Municipality has prioritized combating climate change and environmental sustainability in its work. Through the Climate Change and Zero Waste Directorate established within the municipality, it has carried out important projects to raise awareness about the climate crisis and take concrete steps at the local level. One of its most significant achievements in climate leadership is the My Waste Bank Project, which encouraged citizens to separate household waste at source: 720 tons of recyclable waste were collected, and citizens gained economically. This step in the transition to a circular economy also contributed to raising social awareness. The Compost Project, launched to turn organic waste into compost, reduced the need for artificial fertilizers in the maintenance of green areas; 4,060 tons of compost were produced between 2022 and 2023. These projects are important steps towards sustainable agriculture and green urbanization goals.
The municipality also took an important step towards raising the climate leaders of the future by raising zero waste awareness among 17,482 students through the theater play "Whatever You Can", and promoted recycling culture in young generations through the "Schools Compete for Zero Waste" project.
