About

Samuel Weswa Khaukha is a Kenyan environmental leader, climate justice advocate, community development practitioner and water protection champion. He serves as the Executive Director of Flamingo Chap Chap Auji-Kibos River Waterkeeper and as the African Council Representative of Waterkeeper Alliance, contributing to regional collaboration, leadership development and the advancement of water protection initiatives across Africa.

With a strong commitment to environmental sustainability, Samuel leads community-driven initiatives focused on protecting the Auji and Kibos Rivers within the Lake Victoria Basin in Kenya. His work addresses water pollution, plastic waste management, ecosystem restoration, climate resilience, sustainable agriculture and environmental awareness, while promoting the fundamental right of communities to access clean, safe and healthy water.

Through Flamingo Chap Chap, established in 2016, he has championed youth and women empowerment, community mobilization, environmental education and partnerships that connect local action with global environmental priorities. He is particularly passionate about building the capacity of young environmental leaders and strengthening the participation of African communities in international climate and environmental decision-making processes.

As the African Council Representative of Waterkeeper Alliance, Samuel is committed to strengthening cooperation among Waterkeeper organisations across the continent, mentoring emerging leaders and amplifying African voices in the global water and climate justice movement.

His vision is to advance a future where rivers are clean, communities are resilient, young people and women are empowered, and environmental protection becomes a shared responsibility for present and future generations.
