About

Mehmet Özenbaş is Corporate Director for Sustainability & Energy Transition at SOCAR Türkiye, the country’s largest foreign direct investor, with operations spanning refining, petrochemicals, natural gas, power, trading and logistics. He leads the group’s sustainability, energy-transition and HSE agenda. This ranges from ESG governance, climate disclosure under IFRS S1/S2 and TSRS, and readiness for Türkiye’s Emissions Trading System and the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), to the management of the group’s power generation activities. He represents SOCAR Türkiye at the Green Hydrogen Producers Association (H2DER) and supports the company’s work in the DEİK Türkiye–Norway Business Council.

Over nearly two decades in energy, he has experienced the energy transition at every level, from the field to the boardroom. He first built large-scale renewable power plants, at Tekno Ray Solar, a joint venture with Italy’s Enerray, and then as Group Director of Zorlu Energy’s solar division. He went on to serve as Director for Energy, Utilities & Resources (EU&R) and ESG at Strategy& / PwC Türkiye, advising clients across Türkiye, Europe and the Turkic states. He contributes to energy outlooks and policy work shaping Türkiye’s energy transition, and has co-authored publications on sustainable energy technologies, renewables, hydrogen, energy storage and the energy transition.

He holds a degree in Civil Engineering from Istanbul Technical University.
